Cork Airport — November 1, 2024 — Cork Airport has celebrated the start of a new four-times weekly service to Glasgow, Scotland. Exclusively operated by Emerald Airlines on behalf of Aer Lingus Regional, flights will operate on Monday, Thursday, Friday, and Sunday. The new route will cater to both business and leisure customers alike, providing a direct link between Leeside and Clydeside.
Glasgow is Scotland’s largest city by population and is home to 1.8 million people in the wider metropolitan area. Famous for its vibrant nightlife, impressive architecture, intriguing museums and superb shopping centres, Glasgow makes for a great city break destination. Beyond the city centre, Glasgow is the gateway to some of Scotland’s most scenic regions including the Clyde Valley; Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park and Ayrshire & Arran.
The Cork - Glasgow service will provide convenient travel options at competitive fares starting from €34.99. Aer Lingus Regional will operate the service using an ATR 72-600 turboprop aircraft, with 72 seats. The ATR 72-600 aircraft is significantly more environmentally friendly than regional jets and other turboprops, emitting 40% less CO2.
In addition to the new Glasgow route, Aer Lingus Regional has increased capacity on its popular Cork - Bristol service by adding three extra flights per week, offering passengers more flexibility and convenience for their travel plans.
Ian Lough, Head of Commercial at Emerald Airlines said: “We are delighted to see our new Cork-Glasgow route officially take off! Equally, the added capacity on our Cork to Bristol route reflects our continued commitment to meeting the needs of our passengers. These developments give our customers even more choices and show our dedication to providing greater convenience and travel options across our entire network.”
Head of Aviation Business Development & Communications at Cork Airport, Tara Finn added: “It is wonderful to celebrate the start of the new Cork – Glasgow service today. Glasgow is a very welcome addition to our UK Provincial network and complements our existing Edinburgh service. Glasgow has so much to offer – it’s rich history, vibrant arts and music scene, fantastic food, and great shopping experiences. It’s also great to see the addition of more services to Bristol, and I’d like to thank Emerald Airlines for their continued growth at Cork Airport
