Cork Airport Nominated For Two Aviation Awards

Apr 15, 2015

Cork Airport has received two nominations in the 2015 Aviation Industry Awards shortlist announced by the Irish Aviation Authority. Cork Airport has been nominated for the Customer Service Award, which it won at last year’s inaugural ceremony. It is also one of just two nominees for the Aviation Sustainability & Environment Award.

Speaking about the nominations Cork Airport Managing Director Niall MacCarthy said: “We are absolutely delighted that Cork Airport has nominated for the Customer Service Award at the Aviation Industry Awards for the second year. To be recognised by our peers in the aviation sector is a great achievement and real acknowledgement of the hard work that the entire team at Cork Airport puts in each day to deliver an outstanding passenger experience.

“At Cork Airport, we are always looking for ways to improve to ensure we continue to offer a world class customer service. Over the past year, we have introduced improvements including investing in our Customer Information area and launching a new flight tracking feature on our app, which is a first for an Irish airport.”

Mr. MacCarthy added in relation to the nomination for the Aviation Sustainability & Environment Award: “We have always been committed to reducing our carbon footprint and working to ensure the airport is as environmentally-friendly as possible.

“We have continuously achieved savings of over 35 per cent in energy consumption as well as a reduction of over 30 per cent in Co2 emissions over the past five years. Last year our efforts were acknowledged when we were awarded first place in the Public Sector category at the Sustainable Energy Awards 2014.”

The purpose of the Aviation Industry Awards is to celebrate excellence and innovation in the industry and over 65 of Ireland’s most successful and emerging aviation businesses make the final cut.

Cork Airport is the international gateway to the south of Ireland. Welcoming over 6,000 passengers a day, and more than 11,000 passengers a day in peak season, it is the country’s second busiest airport after Dublin. More than 2.1 million passengers travel through the airport each year, flying to destinations across the UK and throughout continental Europe.
