Drone Use At Airports
Drone registration is mandatory in Ireland in accordance with the Small Unmanned Aircraft (Drones) and Rockets Order S.I. 563 of 2015. All drones over one kg must be registered. Click here for more information on drone registration.
In June 2019 the European Union published new drone regulations, which will come into force in the coming years. For the time being drones will continue to be regulated under national legislation. However, drone operators should make themselves familiar with the new EU-wide regulations, and in particular Regulation (EU) 947/2019, details of which can be found here: EU Drone Regulation (EU) 947/2019.

Cork Airport Drone Safety Awareness Campaign
In 2015, Cork Airport launched an awareness campaign aimed at drone users. The number of incidents involving drones and aircraft on approach or departure from aerodromes across Europe had increased in recent years.
In response, the Irish Aviation Authority (IAA) introduced regulations in 2015. Cork Airport took a leading role with a proactive approach to promoting drone usage awareness with this new campaign.
In conjunction with the IAA, the body responsible for Safety Regulation and Air Traffic Control, Cork Airport has signage around the airport perimeter at various approach locations to runways. The ‘No Drone Zone’ signage was designed by the airport and the IAA.
If anyone wishes to use a drone outside of the limitations set in the regulations, they must seek permission from the IAA. Any drone over one kilogramme must be registered with the IAA. This also applies to model aircraft over the same weight.
