Tenerife is served by two airports, Tenerife North and Tenerife South, with the island’s capital in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. The island’s resorts are well known with water sports and golf year-round activities. At the island’s heart is the Mount Teide volcano, which rises to 3,718m above sea level, making it Spain’s highest peak. A cable car takes visitors 1,200m above the crater floor to mesmerising views over much of the Canarian archipelago. A must for any visitor.

To Stay

  1. Hotel Reveron Plaza is the oldest hotel in Los Cristianos, dating back to 1949. This family run hotel is a two-minute walk from Playa de los Cristianos beach. The rooms are traditionally furnished with balconies. There is also a rooftop pool.

Masca Scenic

Balancing on a rocky plateau in the Teno Mountains, the village of Masca was cut off from the rest of the island until the 1970s. Highlights include a small museum and a handful of good restaurants featuring local dishes. 

La Laguna Cultural

Once the capital of the island, this university city is a UNESCO World Heritage site where convents and beautifully preserved mansions dating from the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries sit cheek-by-jowl with tapas bars, antique shops and bookstores. 

Cueva del Viento Tour

The largest volcanic tube in the European Union – and the fourth-largest in the world – the Cueva del Viento runs for 11 miles in a three-tiered labyrinth of tunnels beneath the municipality of Icod de los Vinos. There are guided tours.

Whale-and Dolphin-Watching Tour

Around 28 species of whales and dolphins feed in the warm waters between Tenerife and the neighbouring island of La Gomera, making it a great location for whale watching and the like. Daily trips from Los Cristianos and Los Gigantes.
