New CityJet Service Takes Off

Oct 01, 2015

CityJet’s new Cork-London City service takes off today and will operate three times per day from Monday to Friday, with one return flight on Saturdays and two flights on Sundays.

Niall MacCarthy, Managing Director at Cork Airport is delighted to see the start of the new service, “The new route is great news for business and leisure passengers. It allows passengers fly direct from Cork Airport into the heart of London City on a regular and convenient service with easy access to the financial district and the West End as well as other well-known visitor landmarks.

“As well as an excellent outbound service, we have also been working with our tourism partners to promote the Munster region to inbound tourists from London and we believe that there is great potential for our local tourism product, particularly food, golf and conferencing. All of which will benefit the local economy,” he added.

London is one of the most popular destinations from Cork Airport with over 800,000 passengers flying from the region each year. It is expected that the new London City service will increase this further over the coming months as Cork Airport returns to growth in 2016.

Ray O’Connor, Regional Manager, South West IDA Ireland acknowledged the commitment of CityJet in establishing  the new Cork - London City Airport Route, which is a great addition to Cork and the region. He called on the many international and indigenous businesses in the region to support the new routes from Cork Airport in order to ensure their success.

“Accessibility is critically important to winning and sustaining foreign direct investment in the region.  Business leaders have an obligation to match the commitment of new carriers such as CityJet by using and promoting the new services across their business, client base and business networks.”

Lawrence Owens, Chief Executive, Cork Business Association said, “The Cork Business Association would like to wish Cityjet and Cork Airport every success with the launch of the new London City services which commence on October 1st.  This fantastic new service will operate 18 flights per week direct from Cork Airport into the centre of London City.  It heralds the start of an exciting new phase of development for Cork Airport.”

MacCarthy added, “The start of the service comes at a very exciting time for Cork Airport. As well as the new CityJet service, we were also delighted to announce our new transatlantic service to Boston with Norwegian Airlines as well as the Dusseldorf with Aer Lingus and Flybe’s Cardiff service.”
