Cork Airport is celebrating after it was shortlisted for a global marketing award at the prestigious World Routes Marketing Awards. The awards mark the best and most effective marketing in route development within the aviation industry.

The winner will be announced on September 21 at the World Routes ceremony in Durban, South Africa, which are widely acknowledged as the most recognised industry awards and are judged by the airline planning community.

Speaking ahead of the awards ceremony Head of Communications at Cork Airport, Kevin Cullinane said: “We’re delighted to be shortlisted for these prestigious awards. It’s fantastic news for everyone who has worked incredibly hard to market the airport and the Munster region.”

All airports nominated in the category of ‘Under 4 Million’ passengers must provide a submission that includes information and evidence as to why they should receive the award.

Cullinane said: “We have had a number of new route announcements already this year with the addition of three new routes, London City, Cardiff and Dusseldorf as well as the addition of two new airlines, CityJet and Flybe.

“The Aviation Marketing Team has been working tirelessly to attract new routes and we are determined to build on our recent successes. We are very proud of the new routes we’ve secured to our schedule of over 50 direct services. Liaising with key tourism stakeholders both locally and in the destination markets as well as the respective airports at the other end of the new routes has been crucial to landing the new routes for Cork Airport.”

The World Routes event is an opportunity for the Aviation Marketing team from Cork Airport to meet with and network with airlines in an effort to secure new routes and build on existing relationships.

Cork Airport is the international gateway to the south of Ireland and is uniquely positioned at the start of the Wild Atlantic Way and Ireland’s Ancient East.  It is the country’s second largest and busiest airport after Dublin and with more choice than any other airport outside of Dublin. More than 2 million passengers travel through the airport each year, flying to top destinations across the UK and throughout continental Europe. Cork Airport’s customer service (as voted by passengers) has won national and international awards.
